Quick update!

Rooms have been blocked at the Holiday Inn Express in Madison and this is where James and I will be staying too!

If you also want to stay there (woo hoo!), you can call and book within the block by telling them you are with the April-Tyrrell wedding. Just make sure to do so by September 14, otherwise the rooms will no longer be available within the block!

Also, if you haven't already, please let us know if you are interested in sharing a room with anyone to cut down on costs!

Places to stay

James and I searched out the weekend to make sure there was nothing going on October 15. But we somehow managed to miss one of the biggest Madison events of all - Badger Homecoming. So, be prepared for lots of Bucky (the mascot), lots of striped overalls (the silly outfits worn to games by the undergrads) and lots of red. It will be an experience.

Fortunately, the park is completely across town from the stadium. Unfortunately, most hotels aren't blocking rooms as a result.

But, we did find one, a Holiday Inn Express, just over 3 miles from Orton Park and on the lake. Rates are $139.99/night for 2 queen beds, $144.99/night for 2 queen beds with a microwave and refrigerator.

Other options -
Downtown:
On the Capitol SquareInn on the Park $194/night with 2 night minimum stay; complimentary airport shuttle.
Just off the Square - Hilton Madison Monona Terrace starts at $292 /night; complimentary airport shuttle; lakeviews and deluxe rooms. Also, Hyatt Place Madison starts at $256/night; complimentary airport shuttle
State Street area:
Dahlmann Campus Inn which appears mostly full, but standard singles are available for $225/night; complimentary taxi service to and from the airport
Doubletree Madison starts at $237.15/night; complimentary airport shuttle and within 2 mile radius
John Nolen Dr/Olin Turville/Lake Monona
Holiday Inn Express (see above)
Sheraton (unavailable)
Alternatives:
Madison Vacation Rentals by Owner
A handful of inexpensive hotels and motels can be found near East Town and West Town Malls in Madison. They are just further away from the park (~20 min drive).
Camping at and near Devil's Lake (about an hour's drive from Madison)

Would anyone be willing to share a room with other out-of-town guests to save some money? If you let us know, we can get you in touch with one another. Or, you can make it happen right here. Blogs are beautiful. Except they are called 'blogs'.

Alternatively, we might be able to find you some local friends to stay with. Just let us know!

We are expecting roughly 20 people from out of town and we want to make sure everyone is happy. Obviously traveling to Madison is not exactly convenient, but we hope you will love your experience there as much as we have loved it. It's hard to think of Madison as a destination, if you've never been, but hopefully you will come for the wedding and see what we see!

Coming along

Hi! Sorry it's been a while! I had visitors for quite a stretch and then James and Logan came to visit too! With the long hours I am putting in at the paper (maximizing my fellowship time) I had enough time in the evenings to squeeze in time with them before we all passed out happily exhausted!

We are getting really excited about the wedding, but it's coming up fast! We are working on getting hotel details for everyone coming in from out of town. We are going to look into blocking off rooms for a good rate, but we will provide a list of the many hotels in Madison if we can't secure something good enough! One of the many benefits to it being a capital AND a college town is that there is no shortage of places to stay and almost all of them are close. Some are within a mile from the park.

So, anyway, we will get this info out very soon!

In the meantime, here is a map of the wedding location:
